Cavtat
Arguable the most beautiful small town in Dubrovnik area and Croatia coast line. Cavtat represents an paradise place settled directly on the shores of Adriatic Sea, on the most southern Croatian area.
Being first inhabited by Illyrians, the oldest nation in those areas and a handful of Greek traders, and then Romans (Epidaurum, Ragusa Vecchia) who made it into a colony, Cavtat acquired and never relinquished that special ancient spirit that's easily seen and even more so felt when one finds oneself here in this little garden of Earthly Eden.
During it's history, Cavtat passed though it's very dark period when this beautiful town was totaly demolished and in that condition it was for decades or even centuries, until the renaissance, when independent Raguza Republic (Dubrovnik Republic) took care about it and reconstructed and brought to life again.
Because of it's beauty, natural as well as man-made, it's rich history and Mediterranean mild climate, it invites you to ease you mind, relax and savor the moment. This small town which in supreme tranquility rests on the slopes of the southern coast of Croatia has become one of the most sought after European tourist resorts.
How to get to Cavtat?
Even Cavtat is located in very south of Croatia, the connection are very good with almost every kind of transportation services.
By Plane
As the most southern town in Croatia, and the most practical way to reach the town is by air, especialy if you are coming from further destinations. Dubrovnik airport is just two miles away and well connected.
By Car
This way of coming to Cavtat has it's advantages, one and most important one is the fact that Croatian coast offers incredible sceneries and traveling by car along it may offer a comfort of stopping wherever and whenever you so please.
Do not forget - you might encounter two challenges: Parking (as most places when they get crowded) and Tow service (infamously called 'Spider'). Pay attaention, because it can easily happen Your car to be tooken due to Your incorrect parking.
Those are both easily remedied and should not interfere with your otherwise marvelous vacation experience.
We would like to advice you to allocate a bit extra time and arrive early when driving to the heavily visited sites. Park in the signed places. It's not unheard of that the cars parked incorrectly had been towed away. You can retrieve your vehicle by contacting a nearby police station or dialing the main Tow Service Office in Dubrovnik at 331-016 (24/7).
