Zabljak
The future of the Durmitor region is devoted to ecology and tourism. Zabljak a little town at the foothills of the Durmitor, is at the centre of all efforts to save natural values, authenticity and purity and an assembly point of tourists from all over the world. Situated at 1,450 m it is considered the highest altitude settlement in South Eastern Europe.
Covered with snow for as many as six months and the snow covering more than two metres deep is not an uncommon sight. It is not difficult to find Zabljak by following the marked paths to the peaks and lakes of the Durmitor. The cableways and ski lifts to the ski – paths are prepared for all kinds of mountaineering and Nordic disciplines at Savin kuk, Stuoc, Javorovaca,. There is an ever – growing increase of snowboarding, and paragliding enthusiasts, not to mention the courageous fans of white water rafting who conquer river Tara even in winter.
