The city of Berat is very old. In the 3rd century B.C. on Illyrian for tress called Antipatria was built on the site of on even earlier settlement in that area. A location and beauty of this town was a target for many enquires who wanted to have this magnificent town starting from Byzantines, Bulgarians, Serbs, and Ottomans who managed to take Berat. For a short time Berat even was a capital of Albania, liberated Albania in 1944
