Osijek

Osijek represents the centre of eastern part of Croatia in every meaning of the word. The region where Osijek is located is called Slovenia and Baranja. Osijek is placed on the Shore of Drava River, near the area where Drava goes to Danube. As in the major part of whole Balkan Peninsula the first inhabitants and settlements in Osijek date from the period of antis and old sation of Illyrians. Osijek during its tumulus history was subject of conquering by many Imperators, kings and nation.
Since 331 ad in the area of Osijek was built by the Roman emperor Hadrian the settlement of Mursa, whom was given a status of a colony with special privileges. The first time the name Osijek was mentioned on 1332 in the Papal list of Lithes.
The live in Osijek during the Middle Ages was thriving, from which now days can be found only traces. This happened with coming of the power of Ottoman Empire which ruled with those areas for 400 years.
