Shkodra - Albania, Scutari Lake, Rozafa fortress

Welcome to the largest city in north Albania. The history of Shkodra is probably the richest of all. Once the most powerful city in the region, city on the shores of the largest lake in Balkan peninsula “ Skutari lake “, and the two with water richest rivers in Albania Drim, and Buna.

The Albania is divided in two main cultures, which are Greg and Tosk. Shkodra for sure is the centre of Greg culture and Catholicism in Albania. Its location in the middle of the roads between the Greece and Italy on the high evolution of the mountain 500 year B.C. was build the famous Rozafa fortress. The most popular Quinn of Illyrians had her base of her and Illyrian Kingdom there at the Rozafa, in 3 rd century BC.

The Romans conquered the centre of Kingdom, in 168. Through centuries this area passed on the hands of Byzantines. Slurs and Venetians. The last ones didn’t let that the Rozafa fortress to be on the hand of Sulejman Pasha in 1473, but couldn’t defend it from Mehmet Pasha and it was taken in 1479, but with huge loser in army in both attacks over 44.000 soldiers, 14.000 in first and 20.000 in second attack.


Now days Shkodra is developing every day faster and faster, soon will take batch the status of the regional centre. Many new buildings are rising every day, many investors are opening in Shkodra, many new hotels are already built, but also every day they are built the new ones.
