Split Croatia

To disricribe the Dalmatia Split region you need to start only with the words biggest, mostbeatiful, centre etc. This area is the largest one in Dalmatia region. The biggest city of Dalmatia is the city of Split and is true representative of Dalmatia. From five monuments and localities of Croatia which are under the UNSCO list of world Heritage, two of them can be found in the Dalmatia Split country which is the only country of this region.

The first and most famous is Diocletian’s Palace. The second attraction under UNESCO, but not less valuable and beautiful is the historical city of Trogir. As the whole region during the history shared the same destiny of devastation also the Split part of Dalmatia provided by the protection of it’s hinterland was for more less devastated and we can calmly say that this area saved it’s originality and authentication of true Mediterranean spirit. Split is the largest city of Croatian coast and the second largest city of Croatia generally, after capital city of Zagreb, and ids the center of culture in Dalmatia.

The very famous touristic region of Croatian located south of Split is the Makarska Rivijera. Almost all the largest Croatian islands re located in this area :Šalta, Hvar, Čiovo, Brač and Vis.

Something more about the most beautiful part of the world as in the song is written about the DIOCLETIANS PALACE.Roman emperor Diocletian choose for his building the most beautiful location in the world, and this happened in the 3 rd century. Nowadays the magnificent Diocletian’s Palace is used as a venue for theatre and other artistic productions as a symbol area of Split, the vicinity of Diocletian’s Palace is used as a truly exhibition of sculpture of famous Croats, like Grgur Ninski know as the protection of Croatian literature, Marko Markulić.

The most famous square in Split is Split Pjaca, to which you can get from any of the four gates of the palace : the Brass gate, Iron gate, Silver gate or Golden gate. From the Brass gate you will go out to the Split waterfront, which is located by the sea and represents one of main tourist attraction. Some of Croatian greatest and richest museums are located in Split and that is one of the reasons why this town is known as the ” TOWN OF MUSEUMS “ .

Starting from the museum of Croatian archaeological monuments with the many materials and monuments, and in particular from the Medieval Croatian state of 9th to 12th century. By visiting Splits Maritime museum, you can see the real greatness of the sea cultural, the rich traditional of Split are and the connection of this city with the sea. The importance of the third biggest passenger part can be felt through the large number of exhibits in the Croatian Maritime museum. Dalmatia during its history had three capital ( centers ).

The first centre of Dalmatia was today Solin or Ancient Salona, whose sea shores where larger than in that time Croatia. Solin greatness in the past is seen even today in the expanse of it's ruins. The second capital of Dalmatia was Zadar, and was until it came temporarily under the Italian rule. The oldest museum in Croatia is founded in 1820 and its the richest and the most treasured of all museums. It is the Archaeological museum. It is normal that from such an historical monuments rich area and between 150.000 exhibits, there are many collections which deserve special attention: ancient clay oil lamp, ancient sarcophagi stone plastic, objects.
